Writing new articles

To add a new blog article to your site, there are two ways depending on where you are on your website.

In the Dashboard:

If you are within the Dashboard, on the left menu look for the option for posts. Hover over that and you will see some options appear. Select the ‘add new’ option.

On front-end of the website:

If you are on the ‘front-end’ of the website [that is, on the website itself], instead you can click the +New button at the top and select ‘Post’ in the dropdown.

For both occassions, you will be taken to the area to write your aticles. From here you can not only write your article but there are a host of other features and tools you can use to customise your article further. We cover these in another guide here.

The main core elements here are:

  • Post title – specify the title of your article
  • Article body – in the standard editor, this is where you can start writing the article content. There are also options to add images by clicking the ‘add media’ button
  • Publish – once you are ready you can click the publish button and your article will be publicly viewable

Post title:

This is essentially the title of your article so specify as relevant. Do note that once you’ve filled this out, the system will then apply the title as the article link. You will see a line below the title called the permalinkthis is the link of your article.

Article body:

Here you can write the actual article. You can write directly into the box or if you have copy elsewhere, you can copy and paste. There’s also some options in the tool bar just above, including familar ones such as bold and italic functions.

If you want to add imagery into the article, unlike text you cannot copy and paste these. Instead you will need to upload into the website’s media library. Click on the button for add media, which will open the media library for you to upload your image.

Publish:

If you have followed the previous steps, then you should have both the post title and article body [images optional] filled out to something like the below. Here we are using lorem ipsum placeholder text [note the permalink below the post title]:

Once you have filled out your post title and written/edited your article, you can then publish. Click the blue publish button on the top right of your screen and your article will appear on your blog page to people to read. Congrats, you’ve published your article!

But before you actually publish, there are a few other things you can do to to customise it even further. Check out our guide to these elements and really elevate your article further.
